Halton Multicultural Council Opens New Office in Milton to Help Newcomers
MILTON, Ont.—Halton Multicultural Council (HMC) is inviting regional and local dignitaries, service providers and the public to attend the official opening of its Milton office on February 1, 2008 from 10am–noon. Milton Mayor Gord Kranz will be cutting the ribbon at 11a.m.
Halton Multicultural Council provides free services for newcomers including settlement services, language training and assessment, housing, employment, interpretation/translation, anti-discrimination youth training and organizational diversity training.
HMC is the only full-service non-profit settlement agency, founded in 1979 that, facilitates and assists the settlement and integration of new immigrants and refugees to Halton region. HMC also promotes and offers programs that foster intercultural understanding and appreciation among the diverse population of Halton.
"Halton is one of the fastest growing communities in Canada and immigration contributes to that growth," said Mike Wallace, MP for Burlington. "Funding provided by Citizenship and Immigration Canada, through the Canada-Ontario Immigration Agreement (COIA), will help newcomers to Halton succeed and integrate into their new community."
Every year, Halton Multicultural Council provides services to approximately 4,000 newcomers to Halton region. The number of newcomers is growing every year in Halton region, including the town of Milton. Through federal and provincial funding, HMC is able to help newcomers settle in Canada.
HMC’s staff of 50 professionals and four offices in the Halton Region provides services in 10 different programs in 26 different languages.
The new HMC Milton office is located on 400 Bronte St. South, Unit #101A, just west of Bronte Street. Parking is available on site.
