Mike Wallace assigned to Ethics Committee.

OTTAWA- Mike Wallace, Member of Parliament for Burlington has been assigned to the Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics. He has also been assigned to the Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates.

“I am particularly excited about the Ethics Committee as it relates to our Accountability Act. We will strengthen access to information by extending its reach and scope and we will be considering further amendments that will strengthen the Access to Information Act. This was one of our primary campaign promises; bringing ethical government practices back to Ottawa. This committee will play an important role in making that happen.” said Mike Wallace, from his office in Ottawa.

The proposed expansion of the Access to Information Act coverage would include seven Agents and Officers of Parliament, seven Crown corporations and three foundations. A bill will also be drafted to reflect the Information Commissioner’s recommendations and a discussion paper will be tabled for consideration and debate.

The House of Commons Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics studies and reports on matters referred to it by the House of Commons, or on topics the Committee itself chooses to examine. The Committee studies matters related to reports of the Information Commissioner of Canada, the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, and the Ethics Commissioner.
