For Immediate Release
Mike Wallace announces $13,000 in support for the BEDC.

BURLINGTON – The Government of Canada will provide $13,000 in funding to support communities in their efforts to attract foreign investment. The Community Investment Support Program (CISP) announcement was made on behalf of Minister of International Trade David Emerson, by MP Mike Wallace, Member of Parliament for Burlington.

“Burlington is actively working to attract, retain and expand foreign investment,” said MP Mike Wallace, adding that the funding for the Burlington Economic Development Corporation will not only encourage investment, but also enhance the communities’ capacity to deal effectively with investors. “Such efforts offer tremendous benefits–bringing new technologies and capital flows to the companies in our communities and creating jobs and wealth for area citizens.”

The CISP support will be used for a redesign of the Burlington website. An effective website is becoming an increasingly important tool for attracting investment. The images and data on the site need to be enhanced to complement a future investor profile that the community would provide to potential foreign investors.

The website and profile will be key components of Burlington’s external marketing strategy, as identified in its 2006 Business Plan. The website will enhance the brand and community image of Burlington as a place to live, work, and invest.

Across Canada, a total of 138 projects will receive funding totaling $4.8 million through the Community Investment Support Program (CISP). CISP helps communities to develop business cases, plan and execute promotional initiatives, build capacity and gain experience in investment attraction. Under the program, communities can apply for up to 50 percent in matching funds to assist in the development and execution of local investment attraction strategies. Applications are evaluated according to their quality and innovation, anticipated economic benefits, and the level of public-private sector partnership.
