For Immediate Release
May 25th International Missing Children’s Day.
BURLINGTON- MP Mike Wallace is supporting Missing Children's Day on the 25th of May. The main purpose of Missing Children’s Day is to encourage the population to think about all the children still missing in Canada and around the world.
“We need to spread a message of hope and solidarity to parents who have no news about their children and do not know where they are or what has become of them.” Wallace said.
As a father of two teenage daughters, he has always been aware and concerned about the protection of children and young people inside and outside of Burlington. With strong support he introduced Bill C-279 in the House of Commons on May 12, 2006.
Bill C-279 otherwise known as Lindsey’s Law, is An Act to amend the DNA identification Act (establishment of indexes) to provide for the establishment of a human remains index and a missing persons index to help law enforcement agencies search for and identify persons reported missing. Lindsey’s Law would be a critical tool in helping grieving families find missing persons or give them closure on a tragedy.
“May 25 is National Missing Children's Day and many countries around the world now mark this day as a day to remember all missing children. We need to take a moment to think about this and do our part to recognize the tragedy of a missing loved one” said Mike Wallace, from his office in Burlington.
Bill C-279 will most likely be voted on fall 2006.
