Fall Agenda: Getting Things Done for Families and Taxpayers.

OTTAWA-The House of Commons resumed sitting yesterday and Mike Wallace, MP for Burlington will continue to get things done for families and taxpayers in Burlington.

The Government’s fall agenda will deliver results for Canadians based on four pillars:

1. Accountability and Democratic Reform – by implementing the Federal Accountability Act and moving forward with Senate reform;

2. Economic Management and Value for Money – with measures to ensure a strong economy for the long haul including value for money expenditure review;

3. Environment and Personal Health – by rolling out a series of practical measures to clean up the environment, including Canada’s first Clean Air Act; and

4. Crime and National Security – by continuing to tackle crime with tougher laws, more police and enhanced border security.

Some of the specific issues that Mike will be working on include:

1. Lobbying Ministers for projects in Burlington such as – A Burlington Centre for the Performing Arts, Burlington’s application for a King Road underpass, a new walkway on the Burlington Bridge, a Burlington campus for MacMaster University and other projects including more federal funding for Burlington.

2. Private Members Bill C-279 - Mike’s Bill, An Act to Amend the DNA Identification Act (establishment of indexes), will help bring comfort and closure to thousands of family members of missing persons. The Bill will be given second reading on September 26th.

3. Mike will continue to communicate with his constituents – Upcoming issues of Upfront with Mike Wallace Newsletters will be arriving in mailboxes soon, new episodes of Upfront with Mike Wallace will be airing on TVCogeco, www.mikewallace.ca will be updated with exciting new content, an upcoming town hall meeting is scheduled, Mike will attend various events in the riding and meet regularly with constituents in his Burlington office and Mike’s regular columns for the Burlington Post are coming soon.

4. Mike will continue to speak in the House of Commons on issues related to Burlington, its citizenry and many of their issues and concerns. He spoke earlier this week on Bill C- 11 (Canada Transportation Act and the Railway Safety Act) and is scheduled to speak again in the House next week.

5. As Chairman of the Parliamentary Steel Caucus, Mike will be active in promoting the interests of the Canadian Steel Industry and working with his colleagues and caucus members from all parties on important issues related to steel.

Among these activities and many more, Mike will continue to work hard, listen to his constituents and deliver results for Burlington during this new session of Parliament.
